Chief Executive Officer
Stuart joined Ethos in 1998. His experience with 15 portfolio companies has given him deep and broad expertise across numerous industries and all aspects of the private equity and venture capital value chain.
He was named as the successor to Andre Roux in late 2013, and assumed the role of Chief Executive on 1st January 2014.
Stuart’s roles at Ethos have included responsibility for the investment programme of the Technology Fund, which included investments in IST and Transaction Capital (transactions completed in partnership with Ethos Fund IV) He led five of the Technology Fund's seven investments, which included two cross-border M&A transactions and the conclusion of a ‘Series A’ funding round with a leading Californian venture capital firm, a first in the South African market. More recently, Stuart led the Fund VI investment in Waco.
In addition to his deal-making responsibilities, Stuart spent a number of years leading Ethos’ Investment Process and Talent Management functions, which contributed to a broad and deep understanding of the Firm’s core operational processes. Stuart’s well-rounded deal making and operational track record represent an ideal platform from which to lead the Firm in the role of Chief Executive.
Stuart is the proud father of three boys and has a passionate interest in “the personal and professional leadership journey”.
Prior to joining Ethos, Stuart spent two years at JP Morgan. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and a Bachelor of Accounting from the University of the Witwatersrand and is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.
